Cardoner: Neymar Has Requested For A Return To Barcelona
By Joshua Walters
Barcelona vice-president Jordi Cardoner has disclosed Neymar has informed the club about his intention of a return to the team, though he remained coy on a possible summer move for the Brazilian.
The 27-year-old spent four seasons at Barca as he left in a shocking €222 million transfer in 2017, but a reunion at Camp Nou is now increasingly possible.
“Neymar wants to return and he made that known,” Cardoner said on Thursday. “But the topic is not on the table. It’s not correct that Barcelona are working on the signing of Neymar.
“It’s an operation we have not approached. We don’t know it would lead to a satisfactory conclusion.”
Speaking at the presentation of Barcelona’s social area projects, vice-president Cardoner disclosed Neymar’s procedure used in departing the club two years ago is something he has always seen as a discontent.
“There are things I still don’t understand about Neymar’s exit from Barca,” he said.
Despite expressing his disgust about the playmaker’s approach used in bringing his spell with the club to an end, Cardoner left the door open for the former Santos forward.
“The player’s wish to return has been transmitted to us,” he said. “But we would have to study many things and change the scenarios in order to contemplate something.
“He is a great player and I gave my assessment of him before. We can’t give assessments now.”
Neymar in his spell with the Catalan giants won the UEFA Champions League and two LaLiga titles among other numerous glories.
Neymar netted 15 goals in seventeen Ligue 1 games aside his 5 goals in six Champions League appearances in the 2018/19 season.
With PSG setting their price tag for the player, Barcelona will have to break the bank as the Paris club will not let a player they recruited for €222 million to leave on a lower price.
