Breaking News: Man United Sack Mourinho
By Joshua Walters
Jose Mourinho has been sacked as manager of Manchester United after two and a half seasons at the club.
Manchester United appointed the 55-year-old Portuguese in the summer of 2016 after parting company with Louis Van Gaal.
A statement on Tuesday said a cater-taker coach will be appointed while they scout around for a substantive manager.
"A caretaker-manager will be appointed until the end of the season while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager."
"The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future."
The former Chelsea manager guided the Old Trafford outfit to the Europa League title and the League Cup in his first season, before helping them to second place in the Premier League in his second campaign, albeit they finished 19 points behind eventual champions, Manchester City.
Mourinho’s spell has been dogged by criticism of his playing style, as well as his unstable relationship with some key players including Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, and Antonio Valencia.
Mourinho leaves Manchester United on 6th position on the Premier League log,19 points adrift leaders Liverpool and 11 points behind Chelsea who occupy the final Champions League spot.
