Former Arsenal striker Jose Antonio Reyes has reportedly died in a car crash in Spain early on Saturday morning at the age of 35.
Reyes, who was contracted to second division club Extremadura, lost his life in the crash alongside his cousins Jonathan Reyes and Manuel Calderon.
Reyes was a member of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ side who went the entire 2003/2004 Premier League season unbeaten and he became the first ever Spaniard to win the league title that season.
Reyes, who holds the record for the player with most Europa League titles after winning Europe’s second club competition twice Atletico Madrid and three times with Sevilla, also played for Real Madrid, Espanyol and Cordoba.
A statement from Sevilla's English Twitter account read: 'We couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace.'
Arsenal also took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness at the news: "Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that our former player Jose Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision in Spain.
"Jose Antonio Reyes: 1983-2019. Rest in peace, Jose."
Former Arsenal striker, Thierry Henry, who played with Reyes at the North-London club paid a glowing tribute to his fallen comrade.
"I’m devastated to hear the sad news about José Antonio Reyes. Wonderful player, superb team mate and exceptional human being. I wish his family and friends continued strength and courage to get through this difficult time," Henry tweeted.
Reyes left behind a wife, Noelia Lopez, whom he wed in 2017, and three children.
