Zidane led Real Madrid to three UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018 before resigning, but the Frenchman has been unable to replicate the success that characterized his first stint since replacing Santiago Solari in March.

The 13-time European champions surrendered the La Liga top position to arch rivals Barcelona after losing to newly-promoted Real Mallorca at the weekend and they are bottom of their UEFA Champions League group with one point from two games.

Mourinho led Real Madrid to the La Liga title and Copa del Rey between 2010 and 2013 before a fallout with some senior figures at the club led to his departure, but as he is currently unattached rumours of a reunion refuse to go away.

“In football, people forget what you’ve done in the past,” Zidane said ahead of his side’s Champions League game against Galatasaray on Tuesday.

“The important thing is the present…I’m not going to say it doesn’t bother me what is being said about other coaches, because it does.

“But what I have to do as a coach is to give everything, get the players to do the same, to give everything – and that’s all I can do.”

There have been widespread reports in various Spanish tabloids that Zidane could be sacked if Real Madrid lose to Galatasaray on Tuesday.
