After aiding Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations final against Algeria, losing 1-0 to the Desert Foxes, Mane enjoyed extra holidays as he returned to Melwood on Monday.

And Klopp believes the pacey forward is in good shape to feature for the Reds, but is unlikely to start the Senegalese from the beginning of the game at Anfield.

“Yes. He had only two weeks off, so he didn’t lose a lot and that’s the good news.

“He looks fit. Yes, he is an option.

“Yesterday was the first session with the team because Monday he came in about four o’clock or so when we’d already left and Tuesday the team was off and he had his individual session.

“Yes, he [was] now with the team for the first time and looks absolutely OK, in good spirits and looking forward to it.

“So, yes, he’s an option but we will see.”

Mane, in last season, was an integral prospect in Klopp’s squad who won the Champions League, but were pipped to the Premier League title by a point by champions Manchester City.

Wearing the number 10 shirt for the club, Mane bagged 22 goals, sharing the golden boot accolade with fellow African folks, Mohammed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who all made the net bulge 22 times.
