Liverpool Owner Sets Sights On Premier League

Liverpool owner John W. Henry says the club’s primary target for the 2019/2020 season will be winning the English Premier League.

Liverpool came within inches of hoisting the Premier League trophy for the first time in 29 years last season but the club ultimately fell short despite amassing 97 points, finishing a point behind Manchester City.

Nevertheless, Liverpool finished the campaign on a brighter note as they overcame English counterparts Tottenham Hotspurs 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium to be crowned kings of Europe for a sixth time.

Despite their European success, Henry believes the Premier League trophy is what the Liverpool fans want the most and the club will channel their efforts into winning it for the first time in three decades.

“To me winning in Europe is bigger than winning in England but I think it’s true the fans want it,” Henry told PA.

“I know we’re going to be focused on winning the Premier League next year.”

With Liverpool missing the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana for large parts of the last campaign, Henry believes their return to fitness will be a major boost to the club’s title chances.

“We need to get healthy,” he said when asked about ways to strengthen the squad. “We need AOC (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) back, we need a healthy (Adam) Lallana.

“It’s not up to me but I would guess we will see more of Divock (Origi) next year. I think he brings something special, he comes with power and speed and brings in scoring.

“I feel really good about next year.”
