Johann Gudmundsson and Sam Vokes scored as Burnley recorded a 2-1 win over Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday.

The win, which is the second in seven Premier League games for Sean Dyche’s men in the 2018/19 season, keeps the Clarets at the 12th position on the log, and condemns  Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds deep in the drop zone at the 19th position.

Possession was fairly balanced from the start, and Cardiff City’s Josh Murphy muscled his way past two defenders in the 18th minute only to see his shot from inside the box smashed against the left post, and Kenneth Zohore fed on a defense-splitting pass in the box in the 36th minute and drilled a shot towards the right side of the goal which Joe Hart saved brilliantly.

Callum Paterson registered Cardiff City’s third goal attempt by heading a  corner wide of the right post in the 38th minute before Kevin Long registered Burnley’s first real chance, forcing a nice save from Neil Etheridge with a close-range header.

Johann Gudmundsson broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when latched on to Ashley Westwood’s superb cross to plant a header into the bottom right corner, leaving Neil Etheridge beaten.

The joy was, however, short-lived for the visitors as Josh Murphy pulled parity for the hosts in the  60th minute by launching a perfect a perfect strike from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner.

Josh Murphy was unlucky with a goal-bound effort from the edge of the box which Joe Hart brilliantly saved from traveling to the top right corner in the 68th minute.

Johann Gudmundsson assisted in the restoration of the visitor’s lead in the 70th minute when he produced a beautiful lofted cross into the box for Sam Vokes to head into the bottom right corner and beyond the goalkeeper.

Josh Murphy came close to equalising, but saw his curler from the edge of the box  slid wide of the left post minutes after which he executed a nice mid-range free-kick which flew inches wide of the left post to condemn the hosts to a defeat.
