The 2020 International Champions Cup tournament (ICC) scheduled for the US and Asia has been postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

2020 International Champions Cup Tournament Scrapped Due To Covid-19

The ICC is a summer pre-season tournament organized by Relevant Sports featuring some of the best clubs in Europe.

The Coronavirus disease has ground most of the European leagues to a halt which will lead to an extension of the 2019/2020 campaign.

EURO 2020 and the Copa America have been postponed while the UEFA Champions League and Europa Leagues have been suspended indefinitely until it is safe to resume.

This means the slot for this summer’s version of the ICC will be used to complete the various European leagues and the organisers have thought it wise to cancel it entirely.

“We are heartbroken for the thousands who have succumbed to the awful Covid-19 disease, and our thoughts are with everyone who’s been impacted during this difficult time,” Relevant Sports chief executive Danny Sillman said in a statement.

"The health and safety of players, staff, fans, and all who are involved in our matches is always paramount.

"The lack of clarity of when social distancing and shelter-in-place restrictions will be lifted and the uncertain international football calendar with the potential for European domestic leagues and UEFA tournaments being played into August, means planning a men’s International Champions Cup this summer is unfeasible.

"We look forward to bringing the best clubs and most iconic matchups in the world to the U.S. and Asia in 2021.”
