Cristiano Ronaldo has been dropped by Manchester United for this weekend's Premier League fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ronaldo caused a stir at Old Trafford on Wednesday when he stormed down the tunnel before full time in Manchester United's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspurs in the Premier League.

Goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes lifted the Red Devils into fifth place on the table but Ronaldo's histrionics somewhat took the shine off an impressive display from Erik Ten Hag's side.

Ronaldo, who was an unused substitute, headed straight for the tunnel just before the clock hit the 90th minute mark rather than wait and see out the win.

United manager Erik Ten Hag revealed afterwards that he was going to 'deal with' Ronaldo for his behaviour, telling reporters: "I will deal with [Ronaldo] tomorrow, not today."

"Today we celebrate this victory, and now we have to recover from this.

A decision has now been taken that the Portugal captain will not be part of the squad when Manchester United visit Chelsea on Saturday.

"Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday's Premier League game against Chelsea," read an official club statement.

"The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture."

The 37-year-old also cast a frustrated figure when being substituted after 71 minutes in the goalless draw against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Ronaldo has only started two of Man United's opening ten league matches this season after failing to secure a move away at the start of the campaign.
