Forgotten Manchester United defender Phil Jones is optimistic he can still play football at the highest level when given the chance.

Phil Jones Confident Of Performing At The Highest Level Again

A troubling knee injury kept Jones out of action for 20 months but he has been fit for most of the 2021/2022 season.

Nevertheless, he has been unable to get back into the Manchester United side, making just two appearances across all competitions.

Jones saw a loan move to Bordeaux fall through in January and the veteran of two World Cups is seemingly out of contention for an England spot at the moment.

Jones, who was part of the last Manchester United side to win the Premier League in 2013, is adamant he still has a lot to give to football.

"I feel lucky," Jones told The Guardian. “I’m 100% lucky to have played in two World Cups, been through the Euros and had some fantastic moments at Old Trafford with some amazing players.

"Of course people say: ‘You should have done this, you could have done that, blah blah blah.’ But I feel so lucky.

“I’m still only 30 and I’ve missed a lot of football. I’m hoping to recapture some form and enjoy playing football. When I was out injured it was a difficult time but I’ll never give up. I feel like I’m still good enough and I’ve got a lot to give. So I’m hopeful. I’m ready to play again.”
