Neuer's Bayern Munich Captaincy Under Scrutiny For Criticising Club
Manuel Neuer's status as Bayern Munich captain is under scrutiny after he criticised the club for parting company with long-time goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic.
Bayern recently dispensed with the services of Tapalovic shortly after Neuer was ruled out for the rest of season for breaking his leg in a skiing accident.
That has not gone down well with Neuer, who went public with his outbursts.
Neuer has since been criticised by former Bayern Munich players as well as sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and CEO Oliver Kahn.
The latest to make his feelings known is club president Herbert Heiner.
"It is incomprehensible and disappointing for us that Manuel did not seek the way to us, but went directly to the public," he said.
"I'm even more disappointed than angry, because I would have thought that Manuel – who has been with us for so long – has so much trust and comes to us first to discuss it.
"I support one hundred per cent what Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic said."
"We will now sit down with him and work through everything calmly and professionally," Hainer added.
"The most important thing now is that Manuel gets well again and can play. And then we'll see."
Neuer's contract expires next summer but Yann Sommer has been signed from Borussia Monchengladbach as cover for at least the rest of this season.
