March Premier League Player Of The Month Shortlist Announced
An eight-man shortlist for the Premier League’s player of the month for March has been announced.
Each of the contestants shortlisted come from eight different Premier League clubs.
Andreas Christensen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard, Leandro Trossard, Luke Shaw, Illan Meslier and Riyad Mahrez are the contenders for this month’s award, which has been won by Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan for the last two months.
The league’s joint leading goalscorer Kane registered three goals and two assists in the course of the month for Tottenham Hotspurs while a reinvigorated Lingard struck twice and produced an assist to continue his impressive form for West Ham United since switching camp temporarily from Manchester United in the winter transfer window.
In an unbeaten month for Manchester United, left-back Shaw scored in an impressive victory in the Manchester Derby and played his role in three clean sheets for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Trossard scored twice and laid on one assist for his teammates to boost Brighton and Hove Albion’s survival hopes, and Iheanacho’s five goals in March included his first ever Premier League hattrick against Sheffield United.
Christensen helped Chelsea keep clean sheets in all three games he played, including victories over Liverpool and Everton, while Meslier made the most saves by any goalkeeper in the month.
The 2015/2016 PFA Player of the year Mahrez scored three times in March to help Manchester City cement top spot.
