Gordon completed a £40m transfer from Everton to Newcastle United after submitting a transfer request.

The 22-year-old came through Everton's academy to make 78 appearances for the first team, scoring seven goals.

He played a key role in the Toffees retaining their top flight status last season but in a statement confirming his departure from Goodison Park, Everton left Gordon no good luck message.

"It did hurt me a little bit, I'm not going to lie to you," said Gordon.

"I thought 'I'm a 22-year-old lad, I'm not going to handle every situation in life perfectly', but I think the effort I gave them last year, I was a massive part in keeping the club up.

"I won the players' player and manager's player of the year [awards], so for them to not really show me any credit or thank me hurt me a little bit, yes."

"My whole life has been at Everton. It was a massive place in my heart and in my life, which I will never forget," he added.

"From afar I will always be rooting for them, I will always be wishing them the best."

Gordon could return to Goodison Park when Everton host Newcastle United in the Premier League on April 27.

Gordon is yet to score in four appearances for Newcastle so far.
