Unlike in previous seasons, the 2020/2021 League Cup semi-final will be played out as single-legged ties, with the games taking place in the week commencing January 4, 2021.

Manchester City, winners of the competition for the past three seasons, booked their place in the last four once again after defeating Arsenal 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Brentford, the lowest ranked team left in the competition, dispatched Premier League outfit Newcastle United 1-0 at home to reach the semi-final of a major competition for the first time in the club’s 131-year-old history.

Tottenham Hotspur advanced thanks to a 3-1 victory over Championship side Stoke City at the bet365 stadium on Wednesday.

Manchester United left it late to seal their place in the last four for the second season running thanks to Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial’s late strikes in a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

This season’s EFL Cup final has been pushed back from February to April 25 to give fans a brighter chance of attending the game in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
