Dani Alves Wants 'Unhappy' Messi To Make Barcelona Return
Daniel Alves hopes Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona following a difficult first season in France with Paris Saint Germain.
Messi has been targeted by the PSG fans following the club's elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
The 34-year-old joined PSG at the start of this season on a two-year contract, having previously spent the entirety of his professional career at the Camp Nou.
Messi has only scored two goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG so far while seven appearances in the Champions League yielded five goals.
Alves, who similarly had a spell at PSG, reckons Messi is not happy in the French capital and wants him to return to the Blaugrana.
“For me, no, he is not enjoying himself at PSG, because Leo makes this game special, and he does it when he is having a good time, because when he is having a good time, the others enjoy it," Alves told ESPN.
“For me it is out of place, right now Leo is out of place there. Because Leo for me lived in the best place in the world to practice what he loves.
“Leo always told me, ‘where are you going to be better than here?’ I checked, there is no better place than here. Even when it came out that he was leaving, I sent him the same message that he told me," the Brazilian added.
“For whatever reason he is not here and I hope he can come back. I don't know, but if he comes, let him come here with me, to enjoy at least a little more of all that.
“All the people who leave here regret it, everyone. Some will say no, because they don't like to lose, but all the people who leave regret it, because it's better here than anywhere."
Messi made 778 appearances for Barcelona after making his debut in 2003 and is the club’s all-time top scorer with 672 goals. He won 35 trophies with the club including four UEFA Champions League trophies and 10 La Liga titles.
