Bernardo Silva Backs Foden To Be Among World’s Best Midfielders
Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva has insisted his young teammate Phil Foden could become the world’s best midfielders in the next two years.
Foden, after winning the 2017 Under-17 World Cup with England in India, has proven to become a top-notch in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
And being convinced with the youngster’s qualities, Portuguese winger Bernardo Silva believes the left-footed midfielder is on the verge of joining the world’s most valuable midfielders in the sport within two years.
"I just think he's six years younger than me, but he's a huge, huge talent," Silva told the BBC.
"If he keeps working as hard as he does every day, because he does work very hard, and if his mentality is good - and he has that - [then in] one, two years he will be one of the best midfielders in the world.
"To go from the second team of Manchester City to the first one, it is a huge step.
"Me, I was from the second team at Benfica, to Monaco, then always growing, and then Manchester City.
"I don't know what kind of pressure he has, but he enjoys playing football so much and he loves what he does."
"He will be successful because when you have a good mentality like he has and when you are good, because he's very good, it's a matter of time.
"Sometimes you need six more months, sometimes you need one more year, but sooner or later he will be one of the best."
Playing a part in Man City’s treble run last season, Foden featured thirteen times scoring just a goal for the Citizens in the Premier League while his four Champions League appearances also recorded a goal.
Manchester City opened their 2019/20 season with a 5-0 humiliation to West Ham United with Foden coming off bench in the 80th minute.
Going into their second game of the season, the Etihad outfit will be hosted by Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday.
