Alvaro Gonzalez Denies Racially Abusing Neymar In Fiery Le Classique
Alvaro Gonzalez has denied racially abusing Neymar in Sunday’s ill-tempered Le Classique between Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Marseille at the Parc des Princes.
The Ligue 1 game between Thomas Tuchel and Andre Villas-Boas’ side ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors, with Florian Thauvin’s 31st minute effort proving crucial to secure Marseille victory over PSG for the first time in 20 games.
The fiery game ended with 14 yellow cards dished out to both sets of players but things really boiled over in second half stoppage time when five red cards were shown to Marseille’s Jordan Amavi and Dario Benedetto as well as PSG’s Neymar, Leandro Paredes and Layvin Kurzawa following a melee.
Neymar made it clear to the fourth official on his way to the tunnel that he had been racially abused by Gonzalez and tweeted afterwards that his only regret was not hitting the Spaniard in the face, having struck him on the back of the head before being sent off.
Gonzalez has however denied Neymar’s accusations as he took to Twitter to defend himself.
"There is no place for racism. A clean career and with many team-mates and friends on a day to day basis. Sometimes you have to learn how to lose and accept it on the field. Incredible three points today, Allez l'OM thank you family," Gonzalez tweeted after the match alongside a picture of him with his Marseille team-mates.
French champions PSG have lost their opening two games of the season without scoring and are still without Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi, who are yet to return from coronavirus quarantine.
