Kovac: We Will Use Dortmund's Assist To Close In

Bayern Munich’s manger Niko Kovac anticipates a second losing streak for Borussia Dortmund on Friday and so has urged his side not to drop points against Eintrach Frankfurt on Saturday.

Kovac guided Bayern Munich to a narrow 1-0 win against Leipzig on Wednesday to reduce the deficit to the top to six points, a day after Dortmund had dropped points in a 2-1 defeat at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Borussia Dortmund top the Bundesliga table after 16 games with 39 points as they go into a top-of-the-table clash on Friday evening against Borussia Monchengladbach who occupy the second spot with 33 points.

The game comes three days after the defeat to the newly promoted side, a defeat which was made worse with Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win at home to Leipzig.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference to his side’s match day-17 fixture, Kovac hailed the benefit derived from the last match day’s outcomes, and envisaged another situation in the coming round where Dortmund would lose and his side will win.

“We used Dortmund's assist to close in,” said Kovac. “It is important to use such chances from Dortmund's defeat”.

“We showed a will to win against Leipzig. Now we must again use all our power on Saturday and get the three points in (Eintracht) Frankfurt,' he said of the first league meeting against his former club.

“Six points are still a lot but what will be important is the points we may get in Frankfurt.”
