Klopp Blames Becker For Costly Error At Liecester City

Jurgen Klopp blamed Alisson Becker for his mistake at Leicester City Saturday, and admitted that the goalkeeper ‘did not do what he should have done’.

With the score at 2-0 on the afternoon, Becker received a back pass in the 63rd minute from Van Dijk and decided to dribble despite having lots of space and time to clear the ball to safety.

Kelechi Iheanacho intercepted the ball and released Rachid Ghezzal who fired home beneath the onrushing Brazilian shot-stopper.

Goalkeeping errors are familiar at Livpopol, and though the German manager brought Becker as the solution to the menace, he reckoned after the game that he saw it coming.

“It was clear that it will happen one day”, he said of the goalkeeper who was lucky to have escaped a blunder from a similar showboating in the 1-0 home win over Brighton last week.  “I did not think it would happen in the next match immediately. It is all OK.”

“He knows it, he could have cleared the situation. I said it last week we need to get used to it more. Don’t give the ball constantly to the goalkeeper if you have got no ideas. I think Joe could have fumbled it away and for sure he didn’t, and of course, Alisson could have done as well but that is how it is. He is a fantastic goalkeeper and makes a lot of saves. He did not do what he should have done.”
