Joe Gomez Resumes Liverpool Training

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has resumed full training with the Premier League leaders after almost four months out with a broken leg.

Gomez suffered the injury in Liverpool’s 3-1 away win at Burnley in the league on December 5.

The 21-year-old former Charlton Athletic defender had formed a formidable partnership at the back with Virgil Van Dijk before the injury interrupted his season.

Gomez required surgery for his fractured leg but has now completed his rehabilitation, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirming that the England international will have to improve his fitness to be considered for selection.

"It is nice - Joe is not injured anymore and nearly fit," Klopp told Liverpool's website.

"He will not be in the afternoon training session because he has to do something else - he has to work on his endurance, that's how it is and how the boys always have to do it, like Ox (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) had to do it when he was finally back in training.

"After a long time, I think Joe was out for 15 weeks, that is long, so he needs to now create the basis again for the rest of the season."

Gomez, who has 6 England caps, has played 18 times for Liverpool in all competitions this season.

Liverpool will return to action in the Premier League on Sunday with a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspurs.
