Emery: United Better Off Under Solskjaer
By Joshua Walters
Unai Emery has supported Manchester United's decision to sack Jose Mourinho, saying the Old Trafford outfit has become better off after that singular act.
Mourinho led Manchester United to their worst Premier League start and was replaced with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, three days after losing 3-1 to rivals, Liverpool, in December.
Manchester United got 26 points from 17 games, their lowest point haul ever, and conceded 29 goals, the highest in their history, though he won the Europa League and the Community Shield.
The once upon a time attacking conscious Manchester United became otherwise under Mourinho, leading to the loss of confidence of many of their big stars.
Solskjaer has transformed the Red Devils into a winsome group and led them to seven straight wins, and Unai Emery feels the threat of the side as he prepares to host them at the Emirates Stadium in a fourth round tie of the FA Cup on Friday night.
“I was not surprised because I think they can win with normality,” said Emery.
“This team is with big players, who want to win the Premier League. This is normal.”
“They can be in the position to win the league, but the reality is they have lost a lot of points this season.”
“But, now, they are very dangerous and in a good moment. Now, this team is different. I don't know why. But this team is different and they are playing with more confidence.”
