Aguero the Hero as man city thrash Huddersfield Town

It was a goal harvest at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday as Manchester City inflicted total humiliation on Huddersfield Town with a 6-1 thrashing on day-2 of the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Sergio Aguero was Manchester City's inspiration on the day as he scored his 13th hat-trick and 9th in the Premier League. He is now tied with Robbie Fowler and 2 more behind Alan Shearer on the elite division's hat-trick record list.

Pep Guardiola's men started the game with frantic pace and had the visitors struggling to keep up with their possession and movements both on and off the ball.

This kept Huddersfield Town in their defensive shields, and they had Ben Hammer to thank in the 9th and 13th minutes for the goalkeeper's great saves to Gabriel Jesus and Aguero's shots respectively.

Huddersfield Town's fortress would be broken in the 25th minute when Aguero fed on goalkeeper, Ederson's, long cross to lob the ball over a helpless Ben Hammer.

Gabriel Jesus made it 2 for The Citizens in the 31st minute with a perfect low shot beyond the reach of a stretching Ben Hammer.

The Citizens continued to press, and Ben Hammer palmed Benjamin Mendy's cross into Aguero's path for the striker to finish it off with a simple tap-in.

Huddersfield Town pulled one back, 2 minutes to recess, through a Jan Stankovic tap-in, following Steve Mounie's flick of Hamid Abdel Sabiri's attacking throw.

Manchester City began the 2nd half like they did in the first and the visitor's woes were compounded in the 48 minutes with David Silva tailoring a free kick from 20 meters out into the net.

Pep Guardiola pushed for more goals and so replaced David Silva with Riyad Mahrez on the hour mark. The Algerian made an instant impact, teaming up with Benjamin Mendy before the latter provided a cross from the left wing for Sergio Aguero to flick in with his outside foot.

Manchester City ensured Huddersfield Town were punished heavily, and a long streak of passes was completed with Leroy Sane crossing into the visitors' penalty area. Terrence Kongolo made a hasty attempt to head the ball out but ended up directing it into his own net.

The Etihad Stadium was understandably exultant at the conclusion of such a carnival performance and a result that underscored the dominance of the defending champions.
