Lazio have emerged as champions Juventus’ closest challengers this season as they sit just a point behind the Bianconeri, who have won each of the last eight league titles on offer.

Simone Inzaghi’s men embarked on a club record 21-game unbeaten run in the league before the season was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic, which has infected 128,948 people and led to 15,887 deaths in Italy.

Totti spent his entire playing career with Lazio’s bitter city rivals, AS Roma, where he remains the club’s all-time top scorer.

Lazio have not won the league title since 2000, but their rivalry with Totti’s beloved club means the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner will not be supporting them in their title charge.

"I have a wonderful relationship with Inzaghi, there is always mutual respect," Totti told Sky Italia.

"He is one of the strongest coaches in Serie A, he is doing great things.

"As a Roma fan I hope Lazio can stop as soon as possible.

"I hope for a blackout as soon as possible!"

Totti’s Roma have had a mixed season so far but they lie in fifth place, just three points behind Atalanta, who occupy the final Champions League spot.
