United have not won the Premier League title since the 2012/2013 season which happened to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge of the club.

The Red Devils finished second last season, albeit 12 points behind champions Manchester City but have boosted their title hopes with the re-signing of fans’ favorite Cristiano Ronaldo as well as Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

Ronaldo completed his move to Old Trafford from Juventus on transfer deadline day and is line to make his second debut for Manchester United against Newcastle United this weekend.

“What impact will Ronaldo have? An enormous one, I think he’s still one of the best players in the world," Rooney explained to talkSPORT.

“I think we’ve seen in the game against Ireland that’s what he does, last couple of minutes he scores two goals, two great headers, so he can have a massive impact on this league.”

“I think United are finally ready to go and challenge for the title, and I really feel they have to this year,” Rooney added.

“[Ronaldo’s] going to be a big player, I think he’ll have very big moments in the season and I’m sure he’ll score a lot of goals.”

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and the Champions League alongside among numerous other honours alongside Rooney during a six-year spell at Old Trafford in his first spell.
