Matuidi had one year left on his contract in Turin, where he moved from Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2017, and won three Italian Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana.

The 33-year-old made 133 appearances in all competitions for Juventus and scored eight goals.

Juventus wished Matuidi a fond farewell in their official statement, which read: “It was, above all, his substance in the midfield that made the difference, and which made him a player much loved by the Juventus fans: for his determination, for his grit and for his ability to never give up.

“And it is because of all these characteristics, and for the great commitment he has always put in place with us, that we thank him.

“Blaise is someone who will always be in our hearts and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

Matuidi’s exit is just one of a number of departures expected at Juventus this summer, with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Gonzalo Higuaín and Sami Khedira all linked with exits from the club.

Miralem Pjanic has already been sold to Barcelona while Arthur Melo will head in the opposite direction next season.

Matuidi is expected to join Inter Miami, who are co-owned by his former PSG teammate David Beckham, in the coming days.

The former Saint Etienne midfielder was an integral part of the France side that won the FIFA World Cup in 2018.
