Luke Shaw has come out in defence of England teammate Harry Kane after two goalless performances in the ongoing European Championship.

Kane has drawn blanks in both England games against Croatia and Scotland, and has uncharacteristically looked out of sorts.

The 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspurs striker is yet to record a shot on target and has been hauled off in both games.

Many have opined that the ongoing uncertainty around Kane’s club future is a contributing factor to his underwhelming performances for his country so far.

Shaw is however unconcerned by Kane’s lack of cutting edge and is adamant the Three Lions’ captain can spring to life at any moment in time for England.

"There's no concern at all. Personally, I think he's the best striker in the world," Shaw said of the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot winner and three-time Premier League top scorer.

"He is a very important part of the team, in fact the most important part. I think whether he has not been at his best or not he is a massive part and a crucial player for us.

"We need him whether his performances are as people expected or not, but this happens in tournament football.

"You can score a goal at any moment and he is such a crucial player – not just on the pitch but off the pitch. He has got all of our backing and I'm not worried at all."

England will look to get back to winning ways when they play Czech Republic in their final group game on Tuesday.
