Lampard Beats Mourinho Again As Chelsea Complete Double Over Spurs

Goals either side of halftime from Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso rendered Antonio Rudiger’s late own goal a mere consolation for Spurs.

Chelsea have now completed a league double over Tottenham for the first time in 14 years, extending the point-gap between them to four.

Despite an impressive start by Chelsea, it was Tottenham who got the first real chance of the game in the 11^th minute after Jorginho lost possession in midfield, allowing Lucas Moura to test Willy Caballero from range but the Argentine goalkeeper got it covered.

A minute later, the hosts responded with an effort of their own when Mason Mount was released on the left but Hugo Lloris was on hand to push his near post strike away.

After Ross Barkley flashed another shot just wide, Chelsea took the lead through Giroud’s first league goal of the season in the 15^th minute. Having seen a goal ruled out by VAR against Manchester United on Monday, the Frenchman powered in a sweet left foot strike after his initial shot was blocked by Lloris and Barkley’s follow up struck the woodwork.

Alonso came close to extending Chelsea’s lead after 23 minutes but a half-volley on his weaker right foot after pouncing onto a loose ball sailed just over Lloris’ bar.

The hosts wasted no effort in doubling their tally after recess as Alonso expertly drilled in Barkley’s pass just outside the box beyond Lloris in the 48^th minute.

Barkley almost got on the scoresheet himself two minutes later after getting the better of Davinson Sanchez, but Lloris was alert to parry his fierce drive over the bar.

Alonso struck the bar with a free-kick seven minutes from time but a nervy finish took place when Rudiger diverted substitute Eric Lamela’s cross past his own goalkeeper in the 89^th minute.
