Europe’s football governing body’s decision means that Frappart will become the first woman to referee a men’s Champions League game.

The 36-year-old also made history in 2014 when she became the first female referee to officiate in the French Ligue 2.

In April 2019, she became the first female referee to take charge of a men’s top flight game in France between Amiens and Strasbourg.

Frappart, who took charge of the Women’s U-20 World-Cup final in 2018, was also selected to referee the 2019 UEFA Super Cup game between Liverpool and Chelsea, which the Reds won on penalties after a 2-2 draw. She was applauded by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for her performance after the game.

Frappart has already taken charge of two Europa League games this season; Leicester City’s clash with Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk and last week’s game between Omonia Nicosia and Granada.

Juventus, who have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition alongside Barcelona, won the corresponding fixture 2-0 in Ukraine.
