Diego Godin has quashed rumors of an impending exit from Inter Milan after just one season.

Godin Quashes Rumours Of Inter Milan Exit

The veteran centre-back moved to the San Siro on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid last summer, signing a three-year contract.

Godin has managed 25 appearances across all competitions for Inter this season, including 16 in Serie A, but many feel he has been underutilized in Antonio Conte’s favoured 3-5-2 formation.

The 34-year-old is thought to have attracted interest from England, with the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly keen to add his experience to their respective backlines.

But Godin says he is surprised by those rumours, as he is enjoying life in Italy and is focused on winning trophies with Conte’s men.

'The truth is that this news about me leaving Milan surprises me a lot,' Godin told Corriere dello Sport. 'Since I arrived at Inter, I have always felt great. Both with the club and the fans.

'I feel the club trusts me and I'm at home. I never considered leaving Inter. I feel part of the project and the dressing room is spectacular. My intention is to respect the contract and enjoy this wonderful adventure in Italy and with the Nerazzurri shirt.'

'It was my choice to come here and I did it with the intention of helping this club win titles, to win as much as possible.

'I understand the club is happy with me too. And that fills me with pride. It's not true that I want to leave. I have never spoken to anyone about this hypothesis. I will stay here and do everything necessary to help the team. If the managers are happy with my performance, my experience at Inter can continue.'

Godin missed Inter’s return to action in the Coppa Italia against Napoli last week due to injury but he could be available for the resumption of their Serie A campaign against Sampdoria on Sunday.
