Verratti Takes Swipe At Unai Emery

Marco Verratti has aimed a dig at former Paris Saint-German manager, Unai Emery, and says the players lost their smile under the Spanish trainer.

According to the Italian offensive midfielder, Unai Emery always went to training looking gloomy, and that affected the mood of the players as well as their delivery on the pitch.

Unai Emery spent two years with PSG and won the Ligue 1 title in his last season, but could not deliver for the Parisians in the Champions League.

The PSG players suffered a lot of criticisms under Emery, and Verratti states that things have changed because they have found their lost smiles following the arrival of Tuchel this season.

“This year, we have a good relationship with the coach and the staff,” Verratti told Le Parisien. “Each manager has a different way of doing things with his players; of making them understand things. Sometimes with Emery, things were quite difficult.”

Verrati answered in the affirmative when asked if there were differences in the attitude of Emery and Tuchel though the latter does not play around.

“Yes, I think so, Tuchel isn’t playing around… but coming to a training session with a shut-off face, that doesn’t work. We have found our smile again, we had lost it a little.”
