UEFA Investigates Neymar Over VAR Comments

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is under investigation by Europe’s football governing body, UEFA, over his comments after Manchester United defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week.

Referee Damir Skomina's late penalty helped Manchester United to a 3-1 win at the Parc des Princes and qualification for the quarter-final stage of the competition as they overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit.

The decision left the Brazilian forward, who sat out of the game due to injury, enraged as he took to social media to describe both the referee and the VAR as 'disgrace'.

"This is a disgrace," he said. "They put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR."

"There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back?! Go f*** yourselves!"

The statement by UEFA on Wednesday said, the governing body, had commissioned an investigator, who is reviewing the comments made by the Brazilian in accordance with relevant statutes,

"In accordance with the Article 31 (3) (a) of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations, Uefa has today announced that it has appointed an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to conduct an investigation regarding the comments made on social media by the Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior, following the 2018/19 Uefa Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United FC, played on 6 March 2019 in France."

Diogo Dalot’s goal-bound shot deflected on Presnel Kimpembe's hand as it changed direction to cross the corner line.

Skomina first gave a corner kick but changed his mind for a penalty after his attention had been drawn to an incident by the VAR.

Marcus Rashford ensured that his side used the spot-kick to secure a quarter-final berth as he buried it with precision.
