Spalletti Wants Clarity Over Icardi

Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has been left frustrated by the club’s inability to clear the uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of club captain Mauro Icardi.

The versatile Argentine striker’s contract does not expire until the summer of 2021, but with some of Europe’s top clubs already hot on his heels, Spalletti wants Inter Milan to take no chances in handing him an extended deal.

Inter Milan had a hard-fought 1-0 victory away to Parma to tighten their grip on third spot in the Italian Serie A on Saturday, and speaking after the game,Spalletti made his feelings known regarding his top marksman’s contract situation.

“I have not created any problems for Icardi,” Spalletti told DAZN following Saturday’s clash.

“Issues need to be clarified, because when you leave things half-cocked, they become open to interpretation.

“People have said a few too many things, now there is time to sit down and talk about something we’ve avoided and dragged along with us for months.”

Icardi’s wife, Wanda Nara, who also doubles as his agent has previously maintained that her client will sign a new deal with Inter.

Icardi has had a slight dip in form for the Nerazzurri recently, having gone seven Serie A games without finding the back of the net, although he is still their top scorer this season with 15 goals in all competitions.

Inter will turn their attention to the Europa League with a trip to Austria to face Rapid Vienna in the knockout stage on Thursday.
