Sigurdsson Strikes As Everton Win 2-1 At Leicester

Everton handed Leicester City their first defeat in three games as they beat the 2015/16 Premier League champions 2-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Claude Puel’s men went into the Premier League match day-eight game having already beaten Newcastle City and Huddersfield, but Marco Silva’s men were unwilling to lift their foot off the pedal after beating Fulham in the last game.

The win puts Everton at the 10th position with 12 points with Leicester City also having as many points but lying a space beneath the Toffees on inferior goal difference.

Richarlison grabbed the opener for Everton in the 7th minute by unleashing a first-time shot from inside the box to beat goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel into the middle of the goal.

Gylfi Sigurdsson put a defensive splitting pass into the Leicester City penalty box, two minutes later, but had no connector, and Jamie Vardy came close to equalising for the hosts in the 34th minute when he picked up the ball in space and, from inside the penalty area, sent a shot inches wide of the right post.

Leicester City would equalise in the 40th minute through Ricardo Pereira, who attacked the visitors’ penalty box, in a swift counter-attack, to send the ball into the left side of the goal behind the helpless Jordan Pickford.

Benjamin Chilwell shot narrowly wide from the edge of the box in the 55th minute, and Andre Marriner showed Wes Morgan a second yellow card and a subsequent red in the 63rd minute for a bad foul, ten minutes before Schmeichel pulled off a brilliant save to stop the Sigurdsson's strike from traveling into the right bottom corner.

The Iceland international would restore Everton’s lead four minutes later when he collected a pass and shot into the top left corner from 26 metres out.

Leicester City were given a lifeline from a corner kick two minutes into stoppage time, but Daniel Amartey condemned them to a defeat when he fed on the perfect cross to head a whisker wide of the left post.
