Scholes: Chelsea Would Beat Man United

By Nigel Phillips

Paul Scholes has tipped Chelsea to beat Manchester United when the two sides clash at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho and his struggling Red Devils head to London in search of a win against Maurizio Sarri’s Blues, who have drawn twice in an unbeaten eight-game run this season.

And the Manchester United legend, who has been a known critic of Mourinho, believes his former side faces a one-nil defeat.

"One-nil Chelsea,” Scholes tells Robbie Savage on Premier League Breakfast on Five Live in response to a question on how the game would end.

Ben Thornley predicts a 2-1 win for Manchester United on the show, but Scholes insists his fellow guest is being dishonest.

“Tell the truth, Ben,” replies Scholes. “When you go to Stamford Bridge and the team is flying and full of confidence, it's always going to be a hard game."

Manchester United conceded two first-half goals against Newcastle United, in the previous fixture, but came back to win 3-2 in the second half.

Scholes admits Manchester United would draw inspiration from that game, but is skeptical of whether or not that can help them avoid defeat.

"Chelsea look very good at the moment, although United can take confidence from the second half against Newcastle. It may have only been against a team second from bottom of the league, but they can grasp on to something."

"They have to take confidence from that second half, which was really good and probably the best of the season."

"But Chelsea are a different story. I just hope we are defensively right and that may then give the forwards a chance to win the game."
