Marcelo unhappy about being substituted

Marcelo was clearly unhappy to be taken off at Girona, saying he left the game when he was playing at his best.

Julen Lopetegui led Real Madrid to a 4-1 win at the Estadi Montilivi on Sunday, and one of the key highlights of the night was the substitution of Marcelo for Rafael Verane in the 60th minute.

“I was surprised by the substitution, but I respected the decision of the coach. I wanted to continue because I felt 100%”, said the left-back.

It was Real Madrid’s second consecutive win in as many games, and the left-back was full of praise for the side which he admitted has room to improve.

“We are on the right road, and I am sure we are going to improve with each game. We played well today and we got the three points.”

Real Madrid lost their serial goal-poacher, Cristiano Ronaldo, to Juventus this summer, and Marcelo admitted the White Angels would miss the Portugues star while issuing praises on the strikers and goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

“Cristiano is the best (player) in the world so it is obvious we will miss him, but Bale and Benzema are also very good. We have two very good goalkeepers. I am very happy for Keylor as he is doing very well."
