Aymeric Laporte has extended his stay at English champions Manchester City by a further two years, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2025.

Predictionboard.com exclusively revealed a couple of days ago that Manchester City were so much impressed by the French defender’s performances that they were considering offering him a new contract despite signing him on a five-year deal for a then club record £57m from Athletic Bilbao just over a year ago.

The 24-year-old is the only outfield player to have played every minute of Manchester City’s Premier League title defence so far this season.

"This club offers me everything I need to improve my game," he said.

"I've already made great strides and I want to continue getting better and better.

"Obviously, I want to win silverware and I feel City is the best place to fulfil all my ambitions."

Laporte follows in the footsteps of Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and goalkeeper Ederson, who have all penned fresh terms with the Citizens this season.

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain added: "Aymeric is a huge talent and the fact he has committed his best years to us is something to celebrate.

"We knew before we brought him here that he had outstanding potential but his improvement over the past 12 months has been exceptional.

"We want to construct a young, vibrant side, and Aymeric fits perfectly into our plans. His style of play suits us and his attitude since the day he arrived has been first class.

"He can be as good as he wants to be, and Manchester City will be a better side with him in it over the coming seasons."

Laporte has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Manchester City this season scoring four goals, two in the Premier League and two in the Champions League.

Laporte won the Premier League and Carabao cup in his first season at the club and will be hoping to win his third major honour in English football on Sunday when Manchester City take on Chelsea in the Carabao cup final.
