Klopp Reveals Liverpool May Not Sign In The Summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the club might not spend big in the summer transfer window but will rather focus on maintaining the core of the current team.

Liverpool have splashed the cash in the past year, securing record breaking deals for defender Virgil Van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson Becker, while Nabi Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri have all made the switch to Anfield.

Klopp’s investment has paid off this campaign as his off-season additions have made significant contributions to Liverpool’s push for a first Premier League title in 29 years, while the Reds have also qualified for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League after dispatching German champions Bayern Munich 3-1 in midweek.

Liverpool have lost some key players in the past, like Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, but Klopp who joined the Reds in October 2015 after leaving Borussia Dortmund, believes it is imperative to avoid such mistakes and keep the current group together.

"I don't think this is a team at the moment where we have to spend the big money or whatever," The Mirror quotes him as saying.

"The best way to do it is bring together a group of players, try to develop them altogether and then stay together for a while.

"And that was maybe the main problem of Liverpool for the last decade. When they had a good team after a season they went all over the world. That will not happen this year for sure."

Despite Klopp’s words, Liverpool have been linked with Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich and PSV’s Steven Bergwijn.

Liverpool travel to Craven Cottage to take on relegation-threatened Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, and with leaders Manchester City not in action this weekend as a result of their FA Cup commitments, the Reds can reclaim top spot with a win.
