Jesse Lingard Rescues Point For Man United Against Arsenal

By Joshua Walters

Jesse Lingard scored Manchester United’s equaliser, seconds after the Red Devils had gone down for the second time, to salvage a point at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

It was a case of the visitors taking the lead and the hosts not allowing them time to jubilate over it by drawing parity immediately.

Manchester United were punished for their defensive frailties in the 26th minute as Shkodran Mustafi connected with the ball from a corner kick to place a powerful header past the stranded goalkeeper David de Gea.

The lead lasted for only four minutes, following Anthony Martial’s easy tap-in to Ander Herrera’s close-range pass.

Marcos Rojo lost possession to substitute Alexander Lacazette in the 68th minute, and he chased the French striker into the Manchester United penalty box only to slide in a tackle that rather directed the ball past the helpless David de Gea.

The lead, once again, did not live long and was canceled immediately after the restart.

Matteo Darmian drifted a pass deep into opponent’s territory and a header from Romelu Lukaku was hit  towards Leno by Sokratis Papastathopoulos, but Jesse Lingard intercepted the ball and drove in a shot through the legs of the Arsenal goalkeeper with a first-time strike.

The result maintains Arsenal's unbeaten streak and leaves them in 5th place on the league table with 31 points whiles Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils are still glued to  8th spot on the log with 23 points.
