Inter Milan Sack Luciano Spalletti As Head Coach

Luciano Spalletti has been sacked as Inter Milan boss, the Serie A club have announced.

Despite steering the Nerazzurri to fourth place in the Serie A to secure a Champions League football for next season, the Italian trainer’s two-year reign has come to an end.

Spalletti’s side secured the Champions League spot in the last day of the season as they defeated Empoli 2-1 on Sunday to end up with same points with third-placed Atalanta.

Inter Milan edged out city rivals AC Milan to claim fourth place, but finished 21 points behind champions Juventus.

A statement by the club on Thursday morning read;

"FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that Luciano Spalletti is no longer head coach of the first team.

"The club wishes to thank Spalletti for his work and the results achieved together."

Spalletti, after his second spell at AS Roma joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2017 as he finished fourth on the league log in his first season, which ended a seven-year exile from the Champions League, but were knocked out of the competition during the group stages.

Speculations are that, former Chelsea and Juventus manager Antonio Conte is set to replace the 60-year-old at the San Siro as the Italian media claim he will be earning 10 million euros per season.

Inter Milan having lost grounds in the European terrain, will expect to rebuild their squad to regain their lost status as they have been linked with a host of international superstars, including Gareth Bale, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.

Spalletti's side failed to mount a meaningful challenge in either Europe or the Coppa Italia following a fall-out with top goalscorer Mauro Icardi as he stripped him of the captaincy.
