Firmino Reveals He Feared Going Blind

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino says he was scared of losing his sight after Van Vertonghen pierced his left eye during the Premier League match day-five clash against Tottenham Hostpurs.

Firmino and Vertonghen went into a fifty-fifty challenge, and the Spurs defender led a finger into the eye of the Liverpool forward, causing the former to leave the game abruptly.

It was feared that the Brazilian international would stay on the sidelines for long, but he made a quick comeback to grab Liverpool the winner in the Champions League opener against PSG and celebrated the goal by covering his left eye with his palms.

“I was scared of going blind in one eye and not being able to see again,' he told Sky. 'Thank God nothing like that happened and it gradually improved day after day.”

'I was frightened, but the pain gradually passed after the doctor gave me a painkiller and it got better. When the incident happened, everything was blurry and I couldn't see out of my left eye.”

“It's much better now. The pain has gone and I can't feel anything anymore. It's still a bit red, but I hope that clears up over time.”

Firmino says even though he is not feeling any pains anymore, but still takes his medication because as a professional footballer the eyes are more important.

“Of course, I've been taking my medication and looking after it. Your eyes are very important as a professional footballer. Thank God everything is OK.”
