City Go Top Of Premier League With Win Over Bournemouth

Manchester City are back to the top of the 2018/19 Premier League table after a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City went into the game knowing that a win would take them to the summit of the league with Liverpool playing at Everton on Sunday.

And they laboured for it as they had to wait until the 55th minute before they could grab the only goal of the game from Riyad Mahrez.

The Citizens now have 71 points and wait to see on Sunday if Liverpool, who are second with 69 points, would drop points against their crosstown rivals in the Merseyside Derby.

Manchester City zoomed into their trademark passing game and came close to scoring in the 19th minute as Bernado Silva’s shot wide of the left post.

De Bruyne unleashed a thunderbolt from the edge of the box but saw his efforts blocked by the opposing defense in the 23rd minute before Nicolas Otamendi latched onto a cross from a corner kick, in the 42nd minute, to strike a shot which went a whisker of the right post.

Kevin De Bruyne was replaced by Riyad Mahrez in the dying minutes of the first half, and the Algerian found the net as he fed on David Silva's pass to shot the ball into the right bottom corner.

Artur Boruc saved Sterling’s goal-bound effort in the 65th minute as Otamendi was showed the first yellow card of the game for an indecent act towards referee Kevin Friend.

Boruc produced another great save as he came off his line to prevent Sterling from shooting into the net in the 77th minute before the crossbar came to the rescue for the hosts as Sergio Aguero’s shot towards goal went straight to the woodwork in the 82nd minute.

Boruc saved his side from conceding another goal as he brilliantly wrapped up Mahrez's header from a resulting corner kick to the right side of the goal in the 88th minute.
