Bayern Munich Drop First Point Of Season

Bayern Munich dropped their first Bundesliga points of the 2018/19 season as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Augsburg on Tuesday.

The champions had appeared on course to snatch victory with Arjen Robben’s goal in an entertaining match but were denied late in the game when substitute Felix Gotze hit home to earn a vital point for the visitors.

Bayern Munich still occupy the top spot with 13 points, two more above Werder Bremen who beat Hertha Berlin 3-1 at home on the night.

Francisco Caiuby created space for himself in the penalty box in the 6th minute but failed to beat Manuel Neuer, who pulled a good a save to the striker’s right-footed effort, Thomas Muller responded for Bayern Munich two minutes later by striking the upright with a thunderous shot, before Renato Sanches shot wide of the left post in the 12th minute.

Leon Goretzka and Renato Sanches took turns to receive bookings from referee  Soren Storks in the 13th and 30th minutes respectively in-between which times Rani Khedira also received a booking for a bad foul on Wagner.

Renato Sanches received a neat pass inside the box with his back to goal in the 38th minute but missed the target with his powerful drive before Sandro Wagner received a  defence-splitting but saw his left-footed drive go straight into Andreas Luthe's hands.

Serge Gnabry’s shot into Luthe's hands in the 44th minute to close the first half with the scores barren and opened the second half by going solo in the 48th minute to set up Arjen Robben who kept his cool to find the top right corner from inside the penalty box.

Renato had the opportunity to double the lead for Bayern Munich two minutes later when he found himself in space on the edge of the box, but could not beat Andreas Luthe who thwarted him with a two-handed save.

Augsburg’s Raphael Framberger was booked in the 73rd minute and Thiago Alcantara followed suit in the 77th minute, ten minutes before Felix Gotze equalised for the visitors by displaying good awareness in the six-yard box and used his body to knock the ball behind Neuer.
