Real Madrid have endured a torrid pre-season campaign, having won just twice in normal time, but the French trainer believes the results in their pre-season exercise will not affect the squad when the new season starts.

Having splashed the cash in the transfer market this summer, Zidane is expected to win glories with the Los Blancos after they suffered a wobbling season last term.

But the 47-year-old is optimistic his side, who ended last term trophyless and finished third on the league log will compete and be better in the new season.

“In the end what the coach wants is to have everyone available and some players needed the game,” said Zidane, as cited by Marca, when focusing on the availability of Casemiro and Eder Militao.

“What we want this year to compete, we will not go beyond that in our ambitions. We want to be strong and to compete. Yes we compete, we will do good things.

“This pre-season win? Well, we are happy, we had a good game. We are going to do many things this year, the important thing is to continue with our preseason.

“In the end we have a game to start La Liga and little by little we are getting ready, every day we are better. Today’s performance confirms that.”

Zidane's Real will begin their new LaLiga season with a game against Celta Vigo as they travel to Balaidos on August 17.
