‘We Would Like To Finish The Job’- Rodgers Backs Leicester To Maintain Place In Top Four

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has backed his side to cement their place in the Premier League top four when the season eventually resumes after its enforced break.

Leicester have been the surprise package of the 2019/2020 season so far as they upset the odds to mount a strong challenge for a place in the Champions League next season.

Leicester last played in the competition in the 2016/2017 season, making it all the way to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Atletico Madrid.

The Foxes lie third on the league table, five points above fourth-placed Chelsea with just nine games left to play.

Leicester returned to training last week as plans to resume the top flight in the middle of June are far advanced.

Despite the likelihood of games being played behind closed doors, Rodgers is confident the absence of their fans will not disrupt their top four ambitions.

“We would love to finish the job – so long as it’s safe,” Rodgers told the official Leicester website.

“It will never be quite the same without the supporters.

“Without supporters there, of course it will be really, really tough because they are an absolutely critical part of what we do. That’s the same for every club.

“For all clubs, it will be difficult. However, the one thing we’re all missing is competition. Getting that competitive edge back to our game by being able to play, that’s what we look forward to.”

“We’ll be ready as best we can. This is the type of situation where no team will really have an advantage over another because we’re all coming back at the same time. We’ve all been off for the same period.”
