Mbappe Named As New Captain Of France National Team

Mbappe will replace Hugo Lloris as leader of Les Bleus after the Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper retired from international duty after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 24-year-old Paris Saint Germain superstar will be assisted by Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

Mbappe has played 66 times for France since making his debut in 2017 and has scored 36 goals.

“Didier Deschamps has named Kylian Mbappé the new captain of Les Bleus,” confirmed the France Football Federation.

French TV channel TF1 also quoted Deschamps from an interview to be aired on Sunday. “Kylian meets all the requirements to have this responsibility,” he said. “On the field as in the life of the group, by being a unifying element.”

He was a member of the France team that lifted the World Cup in 2018 in Russia.

Mbappe will assume his new role against Netherlands on Friday when France begin the qualification stage for the 2024 European championships.
