Manchester City have confirmed 33-year-old David Silva as the new captain for the side following the departure of Vincent Kompany, a former captain of the club.

Silva, since arriving at the Etihad Stadium has been impressive for the side, having won 10 major glories with the Citizens.

On the back of a successful 2018/19 season, Silva announced the upcoming season will be this last spell for Pep Guardiola’s side.

And to honour his impressive career at the blue side of Manchester, Spanish trainer Pep Guardiola has confirmed the versatile midfielder will lead his squad in the new season.

“A captain has to be what he is," the City manager said ahead his side beginning their quest for a third consecutive Premier League title at West Ham. "It's an incredible, big respect from his mates. The decision they have to take. is the best thing for the club.

"David has to be himself, make decisions for the team. Normally, it depends what the captain is like when [in] the locker room. They are nice guys, they know each other, they laugh a lot. It will not be a problem. He will be a good captain."

Silva joined Manchester City from Valencia in 2010 as he signed a four-year contract with the Premier League champions.

The left-footed midfielder scored 6 goals with eight assists in thirty-three Premier League appearances last term, enjoying a treble winning campaign with the Citizens.
