Bojan Urges Barca To Sign Firmino Over Martinez

Former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic says the Spanish champions would be better served with the services of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino than Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Bojan Urges Barca To Sign Firmino Over Martinez

Barcelona are seeking a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez and have been linked with Martinez, who was enjoying his best run of form at the San Siro since moving to Italy last season, with 16 goals across all competitions for Antonio Conte’s men before the campaign was suspended because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Bojan believes Martinez might not fit Barcelona’s playing style especially with the Blaugrana known for playing strikers out of position and would rather go for Firmino.

"Inter don't usually take the initiative and that makes me think that Lautaro could occupy an area at Barca that is naturally not his. [That is] something that would certainly be a shame,” Bojan wrote on Spanish website Sport.

"If you allow me a name, I would bet more on Firmino: a link player, with a lot of presence and great mobility. I do not intend that this reflection be interpreted as a refusal to sign the Argentine, but I understand that his profile must be analysed very well because it would be unforgivable that, as happened with Griezmann, we sign a striker to put him on the wing and then complain that it doesn't work.

"That cannot happen again because, although it seems obvious, a nine is a nine. That is his natural habitat and to move him from there is to waste his talent. If Barca need a nine, sign him, but do it to really use him."

Bojan, who has been capped once by the Spanish national team, was moulded in Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, and he broke into the Spanish giants’ first team in 2007, winning three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies.

Now 29, Bojan currently plays in the Major League Soccer for Montreal Impact.
