Bent Tips Gerrard To Become Next England Manager
Former Tottenham Hotspurs and England striker Darren Bent has tipped Steven Gerrard to become the next manager of the Three Lions.
Gerrard is currently unattached after he was sacked by Aston Villa earlier this week following 11 months in the role.
England manager Gareth Southgate has a contract until 2024 but the Three Lions are on a wretched run of form going into the World Cup and the status of his position will depend on his performance in Qatar.
Gerrard racked up 114 appearances for his country as a player and led Rangers to the Scottish League title in the 2020/2021 season in his first senior managerial role.
Bent feels England could turn to the former Liverpool captain should the need arise to make a change.
Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, Bent said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if he was one of the candidates for the England job next.
“I’m not saying that he should get it, but you know what the FA are like. They like people who have been in the system before.
“He’s obviously played for England and he’s very much a company man, isn’t he?
“It wouldn’t surprise me. I just think that he could be one, certainly.”
