Arsenal’s longest serving player, Aaron Ramsey, has had his career at the club come to a premature end after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery had hoped that Ramsey would return from the injury sustained in the Europa League quarterfinal second leg away at Napoli, but his hopes have been dashed.

That game has now proven to be Ramsey’s last at a club where he has spent the best part of eleven years, but will now join Italian champions Juventus on a free transfer when his contract at the Gunners comes to an end on July 1.

Ramsey and Arsenal failed to agree terms on an improved deal earlier in the campaign, and the Welshman signed pre-contract terms with the Italian champions in January.

Ramsey said on social media: "It saddens me to say that the game against Napoli was my last game in an Arsenal shirt.

"Unfortunately it left me with an injury that rules me out of the remaining games. I am really disappointed not to play until the end and give everything for the club while I am still an Arsenal player.

"Unfortunately it's out of my hands but I wanted to say thank you to the fans for your support."

Ramsey made 28 appearances in the Premier League this season, finding the back of the net four times, while his seven games in the Europa League yielded two goals.

Ramsey joined Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008 and has won three FA Cups in his time at the club.

Ramsey added: "It has been a journey, on and off the field, and so much has happened in 11 years. I was a spotty young kid coming in and I'm leaving a man, married, father of three boys and full of pride and good memories that I will treasure.

"It will be emotional this weekend - my last game at home. I Look forward to seeing you there and thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for everything."
