Morata Pledges 30-Plus Goals

By Joshua Walters

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata expressed disappointment with his goal haul last season and has promised to score more than thirty goals this term.

The Spanish international also says he will not be disappointed if he scores a few goals and Chelsea win trophies.

Morata joined ‘The Blues' from Real Madrid last summer and recorded 16 goals in 51 games, much to the disappointment of the Chelsea faithfuls and followers of the game.

Morata told Chelsea tv he worried over his scoring rate last season and blamed the former manager, Antonio Conte, adding that he could score more than 30 goals this term following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri and the change of system.

"I want to score more than 30 goals, but I would prefer to score 15 or 20 and for us to win the Premier League or another big trophy", said the player who opened his goal account this season with Chelsea's second in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on the Premier League second day at Stanford Bridge.

"I want to score many goals, but the most important thing is the team and the mode we play. Last year, it was direct, and I had to protect the ball in the air. That is not my best quality. Now, I can attack the spaces, play one-touch and go into the area for the crosses which is better for me."

"The manager works with the ball always, and when you work with the ball you have more chances, and the strikers have more chances, but the most important thing is that I score more than 30 goals."

Morata admitted to lacking confidence last season aside being hit by injuries.

"Last year was very hard for me, not just with confidence", he continued. "The injury last season was very bad for me and my head, but when the ball goes into the net, everything changes. Your mind isn't blocked anymore, and I hope now I can score a lot of goals."
